Youth Board Rep
Overview
The Board Member is responsible for the overall governance of Enterprise for Youth. As the governing body of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Board Members are responsible for:
Determining the strategic direction of the organization and overseeing the development and implementation of a strategic plan that advances the organization’s mission;
Acting as ambassadors for the mission, values, and work of the organization;
Overseeing the fiscal health and financial management of the organization;
Providing oversight to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing nonprofit organizations; and
Financially supporting the organization through personal giving and/or fundraising efforts.
Core Responsibilities
1. Strategic Direction
Board Members collectively determine the mission and vision that guide the future direction of the organization. This includes leadership and participation in:
Development, implementation, and monitoring of the strategic plan; and
Service on at least one standing committee, such as Finance, Audit, Governance, Workforce, or Development.
2. Ambassadorship
Board of Members serve as ambassadors to broaden the organization’s base of community support. This includes:
Representing the organization positively in the community;
Identifying and bringing forward emerging issues, opportunities, and community needs; and
Maintaining accountability to the public, funders, partners, and those served by the organization.
3. Financial Stewardship & Resource Development
Board Members share responsibility for ensuring adequate financial resources to carry out the organization’s mission by:
Connecting the organization to individual, corporate, and foundation funders;
Supporting fundraising campaigns and special events;
Assisting with development and oversight of the annual budget;
Ensuring appropriate financial controls are in place;
Making a personal financial commitment through an annual donation at whatever level is seems appropriate
4. Oversight & Compliance
The Board ensures the organization operates with legal and ethical integrity by:
Overseeing compliance with all applicable laws and regulations;
Upholding ethical standards and policies; and
Providing fiduciary oversight consistent with nonprofit governance best practices.
5. Organizational Development
The Board supports organizational sustainability by:
Support in recruiting, training, and developing current and future board leadership;
Support the professional development of staff through the leadership and evaluation of the CEO;
Engage in regular assessment of board effectiveness.
Term of Service
Youth Board Members are elected to a one-year term.
Members may serve up to two consecutive terms, pending Board approval.
Maximum total service: two years.
General Expectations
Attend at least 3 out of 4 Board meetings annually at 654 Mission Street, SF;
June 23, 5pm-7pm
September 24, 10am - 2pm
November 17, 5pm - 7pm
Attend organizational or program-related events throughout the year.
Notify the Board Chair at least 72 hours in advance if unable to attend a meeting;
Serve actively on at least one committee and attend monthly committee meetings;
Attend at least one organizational or program event per year
Serve with the highest level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
Attendance & Removal
Board Members who do not meet attendance or participation requirements may be subject to automatic removal, consistent with Board policy.
